Our Church History … How it all began
All Souls’ Church Bodija is a conservative evangelical Anglican church in Ibadan, situated at No. 1 Arigidi Street Old Bodija, Ibadan.
The church came into existence due to the need to establish a church in Bodija. This was first addressed by the Rt. Rev. D.R. Oyebode, the Bishop of Ibadan from 1956 to 1960, during whose term application was made for the present site. Allocation of the land was made in 1965.
Shortly after, a small group drawn largely from Christ Church Mapo and St. James’ Cathedral, Ibadan held the first service on Sunday the 1st of March 1965 at the residence of the renowned lawyer, Chief FRA Williams in Bodija. For more than 4 years thereafter services were conducted at the same venue, by arrangements with priests who came from various parishes and institutions in and around Ibadan.
The main burden fell principally upon Rev. S.O. Aderin (later Bishop) then Vicar of Christ Church Mapo, who often “stood in alone, week after week to minister to the church.” The Church then known simply as the “Church in Bodija” was stabilized and assured of steady, healthy growth. The foundation of the current All Souls’ Church building at No. 1, Arigidi Street, Bodija, Ibadan was laid by The Rt. Rev. G.I.O. Olajide on Saturday the 10th of June 1989, with The Rev. E.L.A. Akinola being the Vicar. And to the glory of God, the building was dedicated by The Rt. Rev. G.I.O. Olajide on Saturday the 3rd of April 1999. With the Vicar being Ven. M.O Fape.
